Garth Hill College

Young Carers

There are about 700,000 Young Carers in the UK; that's about one in 12 secondary school aged pupils. There are young carers in every school and college, and Garth Hill College is no exception to this. We recognise the importance of identifying and supporting these young people as they strive to balance the demands of caring with school life.

We want our young carers to have equal opportunity to engage in education and out of classroom activities. Our members of staff are aware of the needs of young carers, and we work in line with best practices of the Carers' Trust to provide the support they need. We have two key contacts for young carers:

  • Mrs Cordoba Tellez is responsible for safeguarding and young carers, and is a member of the College's Senior Leadership Team.
  • Miss Richmond is our Family Support Advisor and she works with young carers and outside agencies on a day to day basis.

We encourage young carers and those who think they may be a young carer to come forward and speak to staff in confidence. They are also welcome to email their questions, concerns and worries via the email: youngcarers@garthhillcollege.com.

Support and advice is also available from the Carers Trust from Bracknell Forest Council.
