Outreach
We have excellent relationships with our partner primary schools, and other secondary schools in the area. In addition to a full transition programme our students take part in the Sports Leadership Programme, and organise and lead activities at primary schools. They also take part in the Shakespeare Festival and Berkshire Maestro Concerts. We welcome primary school pupils into College for author events, concerts and many of the College’s stage productions that take place in our auditorium.
As part of our post-16 enrichment curriculum many of students will have work experience placements in the local community, and community services. Many of our young people over 16 will take part in the National Citizen Service which is a Government programme designed brings together young people from different backgrounds to help them to develop greater confidence, self-awareness and responsibility. It encourages personal and social development for young people by working on skills such as leadership, teamwork, and communication. Participants also develop a social action project that deals with a local issue.
Every year our Sixth Form students devise, organise and run a Christmas Party for local senior citizens. We welcome nearly 40 guests to the event. They enjoy talking to our pupils, afternoon tea and carols sung by Garth Hill students.
A number of our young people are currently part of the Bracknell Forest Youth Council which involves young people having a say on local services and issues that affect them. The Council was set up in 2001. Young people (11-19 years) run the committee with the aim of improving the Bracknell Forest area for all young people.
