Under 13 County Athletics Success
On Tuesday 2 July, five year 7 pupils represented Bracknell Forest at the U13 Berkshire Schools County Athletics competition. These five pupils had qualified to represent Bracknell after finishing in the top two in June’s District Athletics competition.
All five pupils performed brilliantly and demonstrated superb effort and determination. In the boys’ 600m, Riley Howe and Daniel Hockley did their best to stay with the leading pack who set a very quick pace. A strong finish by both resulted in a 5th place finish for Riley and a 6th place finish for Daniel.
This was then followed up by James Hall in the shot put. Again, competing against some very strong opposition James performed brilliantly to finish 4th in the county! James’ furthest throw was a big improvement from his District Athletics throw but was just short of a podium place on the day.
In the 75m Hurdles, Harry Gurney, who only started the event in January, ran a very comfortable heat finishing in first place. Going into the final, Harry ran a very impressive time which led him to a silver medal and 2nd in the county!!
Last but by no means least was Isabelle Thorpe who was running in the 1000m final. Isabelle led from the start and looked to control the race as best she could. Isabelle and one other quickly developed space between themselves and the rest of the field leaving Isabelle in strong position. Going into the last lap both girls were pushing each other to do their best but as they approached the last 150m Isabelle stepped it up to another level and after a very strong finish ended up in 1st place and with the gold medal. This win now makes Isabelle the U13 Berkshire Schools Cross Country and 1000m champion!!
All five pupils were excellent. To qualify for this event is a huge achievement and to be in the top six in the whole of Berkshire is fantastic
