The Duke of Edinburgh's Award
I am delighted to inform you that we are now recruiting for the Bronze and Silver Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE). Students in year 9 will undertake the Bronze Award and students in year 10 will undertake the Silver Award.
Doing DofE is a brilliant way for your child to discover just how much they are capable of. It gives young people the chance to make new friends, follow their passions, learn new skills and make a difference in our community. Gaining a DofE Award is a great way to impress employers too. It is also non-competitive and a powerful way for every young person to build belief in themselves, whatever their background, interests and abilities.
When children take part in the DofE programme they’ll develop the skills and attitudes they need to become more rounded, confident adults. Qualities that colleges, universities and employers are attracted to. So here at Garth Hill College through the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, we are collectively investing in the childrens future.
You can expect to see children develop in the following areas as they work through their DofE programme:
- Self-belief and self-confidence
- A sense of identity
- Initiative and a sense of responsibility
- A real awareness of their strengths
- New talents and abilities
- The ability to plan and use time effectively
- Learning from and giving to others in the community
- Forming new friendships
- Problem solving, presentation and communication skills
- Leadership and teamworking skills.
We hope many of our students will take this opportunity to get involved with DofE. Please find below a link inviting (Student name) to take part in the programme for 2025.
