Information for Year 7-11 Pupils in the Main College

Please ensure you read the information below to facilitate a smooth start to the term for both pupils and staff. During this first day, pupils will remain with their tutor group. We will go through arrangements fully with pupils and issue stickers for their planners indicating arrival and dismissal times, entry points to the college and tutor bases. Curriculum lessons will begin for all year groups, on Tuesday 8 September.

Travel

It is important that all pupils are as safe as possible when travelling to and from college. Pupils are advised to walk or cycle if possible and to observe social distancing rules when travelling to and from school. Pupils should travel directly to school and then straight home at the end of the school day. Pupils are not to congregate or wait for friends. Pupils cycling must wear a cycle helmet, use cycle paths and bring a lock to store their cycle securely in the cycle shed designated for their year group bubble.

Uniform

All pupils should arrive in full College uniform. Stevensons, our uniform suppliers are open for business for on line orders but please see information in this bulletin regarding appointments in store from 17 August 2020. School shoes must be worn. Please note, Air Force One and any other form of black trainers are not permitted.

Pupils should wear PE kit to College on days when they have practical PE. It is advisable that all pupils have black jogging bottoms and/or black tracksuit bottoms and GHC sweatshirts. We ask that pupils do not wear shorts and skorts only but that they wear their jogging bottoms with these items underneath, if they prefer, during lessons. They may also wear an outdoor coat over their sweatshirts or a suitable waterproof coat. Please be advised, hoodies may not be worn to college at any time.

Behaviour

During this time, the safety and well-being of everyone in our community is priority. As such, pupils are expected to follow the Seven Habits and all classroom rules. All pupils will be expected not to make physical contact with anyone else, and to sensibly social distance where possible. Pupils will be informed on their return of any changes or updates to the behaviour system.

Equipment

We will not be issuing lockers to pupils in September and pupils must only bring the essential equipment that they need each day in a school bag. Tools for learning are particularly important due to minimising the sharing or giving out of equipment. Please could you ensure your child has a pencil case containing all essential equipment including a glue stick. Students are advised to cover their exercise books with clear sticky back plastic.

Lunch Time

While the Restaurant will be open for service, we would encourage pupils to bring a packed lunch wherever possible. Please remember not to bring any nuts or any products containing nuts to College. Food in the Restaurant will be provided in pots or bags, not plated.
