Sports Tour to Barcelona and Lloret De Mar

During May Half – Term the PE department ran our 4th Sports Tour to Barcelona and Lloret De Mar in Spain. In total, there were 48 pupils on the trip across years 9 and 10. This consisted of 2 football teams and 2 netball teams. The first two days of the trip centred around a British Schools Sports Competition. In the football competition 12 teams took part and in the netball competition 16 teams took part. Day one of the competition acts as a qualifying stage for day two. Where you finished on day one determined which competition you were entered into on day two. Both our football teams did brilliantly. The year 10 team went unbeaten on day one winning 4 out 5 games and drawing their last match. This meant they finished top of their group and qualified for the premier cup on day two. The year 9 team had a tougher first day but finished with 2 wins, 2 defeats and a draw. This meant they finished 2nd in their group and also finished for the premier cup on day two.

In the netball, the A team were dominant on day one winning all 5 of their matches. This meant they qualified for the premier cup on the 2nd day along with the boys. The B team found it more difficult, playing against some strong opposition. They finished with three losses and 1 draw but this meant that they qualified for the group D pool competition where their fortunes would change!

On day two the year 9 football team did themselves proud. Playing against teams the year above they finished with one win, two draws and two defeats. As a result they finished the whole tournament in 4th position. The Netball B team had a much better second day winning 2 games, drawing 1 and losing 1. This meant that they finished 2nd in their group! The A team had another positive day however it did not end the way we had hoped. After winning the first two games the girls then had to play the other standout team of the competition. The match was very close but we were beaten by just the single point. This meant that the girls finished 2nd out of 16 schools but just missed out on retaining their title from the year before.

It was then left to the year 10 boys to try and retain their title. Winning it as year 9s in 2018 the team were confident on the 2nd day and this confidence was soon justified. The team were fantastic and went on to win all 5 of their premier cup games without conceding a single goal. They finished 4 points clear of any other team and were deservedly crowned the Sports Tour Champions for the 2nd year in a row!

The following two days allowed pupils time to relax. We visited the Nou Camp and spent time in Barcelona city centre. We also visited Water World in Lloret De Mar on the final day.

The pupils were excellent throughout. It is a fantastic experience for them and it is great to see them develop in an environment so different to school. Hopefully the trip has created lasting memories for the pupils and it will be something that they can look back on fondly.

Tom Harvey – Year 10 Football Captain “I really enjoyed my time on the trip. This is the second sports tour I have been on and it was great to win the competition for the second year running”.

Evie Pass – A Team Netball Captain “ It was a fantastic and enjoyable experience that allowed our team to learn new skills with a competitive yet fun environment, thanks to the training sessions provided and the matches that we participated in. As well as the competitive element of the tour, we had the opportunity to explore Lloret de Mar and Barcelona when we went to the beach, Nou Camp and walked down La Rambla. Overall, it was an amazing experience that I will never forget!”
