County Athletics

It was great to finally have some extra – curricular competition take place on Saturday 11 June! The Berkshire Schools County athletics competition took place at Palmer Park in Reading. To qualify, students had to submit a qualification time or distance they had achieved in their club performances. Three students, James Hall (Shot Put), Matthew Mulé (100m) and Issy Thorpe (800m) achieved the required qualification times and distances in Bracknell Forest to secure their place at the county championships.

All students performed very well on the day. James Hall finished 6th with a throw of 9.81m. Matthew Mulé performed brilliantly and finished 3rd with a fantastic time of 11.60s just being pipped to 2nd place on the line. The afternoon was then perfectly rounded off by the ever impressive Issy Thorpe who finished as county champion in the 800m with a time of 2 minutes 23.7 seconds. This follows Issy’s county win in the same event in year 7!!

All students should be very proud as in difficult circumstances they qualified and performed very well at the county championships, representing Bracknell Forest, Garth Hill College and themselves superbly.

Zac Davies

Zac Davies has enjoyed a wonderful start to his athletics season in the shot put. Following on from a personal best  throw of 16.21m at the Loughborough Spring Throws Competition, he has now improved this to the current distance of 16.66m.  At the time this ranked Zac 1st in the UK and 43rd in Europe and led to him being selected for the Team GB junior squad. At the event he threw 15.96m a distance long enough for him to come 1st in the Under 20 event. Well done and keep it going Zac!
