Sixth Form Student Celebrates Prestigious Harvard University Place

Sixth Form student Stephen Mintah is celebrating an outstanding achievement after securing a place at Harvard University in the USA. Recognised as one of the world's most prestigious higher education institutions, Harvard is where Stephen intends to study English Literature and Computer Science.

Stephen achieved an excellent set of A Level results, attaining A*ABB, reflecting his dedication, resilience and commitment to his studies throughout his time at Garth Hill College. He flew out to begin his studies in the USA last week.

Stephen's success is particularly notable given the highly competitive and rigorous admissions process for Harvard University. Having secured his place through a rigorous application process including multiple essays and interviews, he is now preparing to begin the next stage of his academic journey in the United States.

Speaking about his achievement, Stephen said:

I wanted to study at Harvard, and more broadly in the US, at university level because there's more flexibility with the subjects you can study through things like electives, majors and minors, and I've always had quite broad academic interests. While I don't officially declare a concentration until the start of my second year, I'm thinking of doing a double concentration in English Literature and Computer Science at the moment.
The application process involved writing my main Common App essay, which goes to all the schools you apply to, as well as Harvard-specific supplementary essays. I then had an alumni interview and an interview with the admissions officer for the UK.

Reflecting on receiving his offer, Stephen added:

When I first got in, I felt a mix of disbelief and excitement. It didn't really feel real until I actually arrived on campus this week.
I'm most looking forward to meeting a diverse range of talented students from across the world and learning from them, while also taking advantage of everything the university has to offer.

Garth Hill College is proud to celebrate Stephen's achievement and the determination that has enabled him to reach this important milestone.

His success demonstrates the opportunities available to students at Garth Hill College Sixth Form and serves as an inspiration to other students aspiring to study at leading universities both in the UK and internationally.

Reflecting on his time at Garth Hill College, Stephen added:

My journey at Garth Hill College was very helpful in preparing me for my next steps, as US universities place a strong emphasis on extracurricular involvement. Taking advantage of opportunities at GHC and GH6, such as helping to organise a Senior Citizens' Party, was particularly valuable.

The College would like to congratulate Stephen on this remarkable accomplishment and wish him every success as he embarks on the next chapter of his educational journey.
