New Age Kurling Success
On Friday 28 June, the New Age Kurling team took part in the Berkshire Schools County Competition. The boys had qualified for this event after winning the Bracknell Forest competition in March. The county competition consisted of five teams from different districts in Berkshire.
The team made a great start winning their first game by 2 points. In their second game however, their opponents managed to win three points in the last end resulting in a 5-4 defeat. This didn’t deter the boys though who knew that if they won their last two games they were still in with a chance of a medal. The penultimate game was again close but the boys managed to keep their composure to win by one point. This result meant that the two top teams would be facing each other in the last game. We were on 6 points and The Wren School were on 7 points and unbeaten after three matches. Only a win would lead to the gold medal for Garth Hill College and this spurred the boys on. The first 4 ends were very close leaving the score at 2-2. It was in the 5th end that the game was decided when the boys worked brilliantly as a team to secure three points taking the score to 5-2 going into the last end. The Wren fought back in the last end but could only reduce the deficit by one resulting in Garth Hill College and Bracknell Forest being crowned the county champions!!
The boys were fantastic throughout the day and were a real credit to Garth Hill College. They demonstrated excellent teamwork and communication which enabled them compete so brilliantly. Congratulations to the following pupils - Dylan Owen, Samuel Gibbon, Tyrone Lavers–Mason–Brown, Jozeph Zambaux.
