Start of Spring Term 2021

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Start of Spring Term 2021

The Government has announced today that the start of term in January will be staggered for students.  Although we expect to receive further detailed information shortly, the announcement means that year 11, 12 and 13 students would return to school from Monday 04 January, along with keyworker and vulnerable children.   All other students in years 7-10 should continue to learn from home for the rest of that week, with an expected return date for all students on Monday 11 January.

The Government has also announced that staff and pupils will have access to rapid testing from January.  We will receive more information on the test arrangements shortly.  We understand that the staggered start will help to facilitate the testing.

A Government press release today states:

Students in exam year groups, vulnerable children and children of critical workers will all attend school or college in person from the start of term, as will all students in primary, special and alternative provision schools and colleges.

Vocational exams scheduled for the week of 4 January will go ahead as planned.

Secondary schools and colleges will operate a staggered return, offering all non-exam year groups full-time remote education, as close as possible to that which students would get in class, during the first week of term, with face-to-face education for all starting on 11 January.

CONTACT TRACING

Schools are required to provide contact tracing support until 23 December. If you need to contact the College, including to inform us about positive Covid-19 tests, please email reception@garthhillcollege.com. From 24 December, all contact tracing will be carried out by NHS Test and Trace.  Please note that we will not send out any further notifications during the holiday period unless there are close contacts.  If you think your child may be a close contact of someone who tests positive over the holiday period, please do not send your child into school.  Please contact the College first.

A reminder that students must not come to school with any Covid-19 symptoms.  We are also advising parents/carers to keep their child/ren at home if they are feeling unwell with any other (non-Covid listed) symptoms, however mild.  Thank you for your cooperation and support.
