Hot Weather Arrangements
As you will be aware, weather warnings have been issued regarding the very high temperatures forecast for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. We have undertaken a comprehensive risk assessment which takes into account a range of factors and necessary adjustments.
We also appreciate that a number of parents/carers have shared concerns with us about the extreme conditions. Temperatures are expected to peak in the mid-afternoon, coinciding with the end of the school day. In addition, some local schools are closing early, which is creating childcare issues for a number of staff.
Following our assessment, we are confident that the school can continue to operate safely, particularly as our buildings remain significantly cooler than outside temperatures due to our Air Handling Units (AHUs). However, we are making the following temporary adjustments and ask for your support.

Work for Period 4 will be set on Microsoft Teams for pupils to complete at home.
Provision will be made for any pupil who requires supervision until the end of the normal College day. Please contact Mrs Burge, Administration Manager at t-burge@garthhillcollege.com if you require this.
Additional adjustments for the rest of this week:
- Blazers are not required during this period
- Pupils are discouraged from wearing the optional jumper
- Summer polo shirts may be worn
- Tailored black/grey shorts or black PE shorts are permitted
- PE lessons will take place indoors wherever possible
- PE staff will take extra care when planning and delivering activities
Further advice for pupils:
- Stay indoors as much as possible during the day
- Pupils may remain inside during break and lunch
- If outside, stay in shaded areas, wear a hat, and apply sunscreen
- Keep well hydrated throughout the day
Bring a refillable water bottle (refill stations available in the restaurant)
We will continue to monitor the situation closely and keep arrangements under review throughout the week.
Thank you for your understanding and support.
Yours faithfully
