On Monday 1 July the Senior girls cricket team were invited to play at the Berkshire Schools Girls Cricket Finals Day held a Reading Cricket Club. The team was made up of Izzy Clayton (Yr12), Megan Emburey (Yr12), Bethany Dark (Yr10), Evie Folwell (Yr9), Lennie Galea (Yr9), Kali-Ann Docherty (Yr9), Genevieve Houten (Yr9) and Lily Douglas (Yr7).
The senior competition was attended by 4 Berkshire Schools; Garth Hill, Charters, Leighton Park and The Abbey School. Charters was the first game of the competition where GHC batted first and amounted an impressive 122 runs, where Bethany Dark retired once reaching 25 individual runs, Charters only managed 77 runs in reply, which meant a winning start. Next up was The Abbey School who elected to bat first and posted a 46 run total, GHC chased the runs in a very quickly taking only 5 overs to reach the total. The last group match was against Leighton Park and the Girls totalled a whopping 139 runs, Izzy Clayton, Megan Emburey and Evie Folwell all retiring after reaching 25 runs each. The girls then limited Leighton Park to only 26 runs, so the final awaited having been unbeaten in the group stage.
Charters were the team that progressed to join us in the final. Izzy won the toss and put Charters into bat feeling confident with our bowling attack. The Charters girls batted really well and posted a score of 78. We started the run chase very well, but lost a couple of batters before Megan reversed swept the bowler for a boundary and won the game with some overs to spare. Garth Hill College were then presented as the Berkshire schools Girls Cricket winners 2019
