Garth Hill College

Face Coverings

Following the Government's announcement that the wearing of face coverings will no longer be recommended for pupils in classrooms or communal areas in all schools from Monday 17 May, the college has been decided that:

  • There is no longer a requirement to wear face coverings in classrooms at Garth Hill College, although individuals may continue to wear a face covering in classrooms if they so wish.
  • Students and staff will continue to wear a face covering in corridors and communal areas where social distancing is not possible.

Please note that, whilst this goes beyond the Government’s new guidance, we think adopting a more cautious and stepped approach is a sensible course of action at this time.  Thank you very much for your on-going support and cooperation.

We will continue to monitor the situation.  The most likely next step would be to come into complete alignment with the Government guidance on the wearing of face coverings, whilst respecting the right of the individual to wear a face covering if they so wish.  It is difficult to put a date on when this is likely to be, but we will next review the situation at May half term.  There is a good possibility, subject to the number of cases in our school community, that we would move to completely adopt the new Government guidance on face coverings at some point before the end of Summer Term.  We are also considering whether we can take any further steps to normal before the end of term, although this is dependent on further Government guidance.
