British Science Week 2024
British Science Week 2024 marked its 30th Anniversary with a captivating theme: "Time." Under the guidance of Mrs Fatania, assemblies have delved deeply into the concept of time, while students have explored the subject further during tutor sessions through engaging TED talk videos.
Medical Mavericks offered around 200 students from years 7 to 11 an immersive experience in Careers in Health workshops. Participants gained insights into various NHS careers and had hands-on experiences, such as drawing blood from a fake arm, recording their own ECG, performing keyhole surgery, and exploring the inner workings of the body through ultrasound.
Year 12 students specialising in STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths) were treated to talks by two PhD students from the University of Reading. Focused on Environmental Science, these sessions provided invaluable insights into how STEM disciplines contribute to academic and career advancement.
A special visit from Warfield Primary's year 6 students offered them a glimpse into secondary school science. Engaging in hands-on Physics, Chemistry, and Biology experiments, they experienced first-hand the practical side of the secondary science curriculum.
Fifty year 7 students embarked on an enriching trip to the Emmanuel Centre in London for KS3 Science Live. There, they had the privilege of listening to talks by renowned scientists like Prof. Robert Winston, Mrs Anna Ploszajski, and Dr Maggie Aderin-Pocock, who shared insights into their ground-breaking research.
Students were given a unique opportunity for a one-on-one question and answer sessions with Prof. Robert Winston, allowing them to delve deeper into their scientific inquiries.
