  • Thursday 18 March 2021 Important Reminder - Preventing Transmission of Covid-19 Students must not come to school with Covid-19 symptoms, or if a member of their household has Covid-19 symptoms.† If anyone in your household develops Covid symptoms, Government guidance states that your whole household must isolate and the person with symptoms must arrange a test as above.

  • Thursday 18 March 2021 Studentsí Success Congratulations to year 11 students, Jack Graham and Duncan McClements, on securing the offer of a place at King’s College London Mathematics School (KCLMS), run in partnership with King’s College London. 
  • Thursday 4 March 2021 ECO Rewards for Schools Bracknell Forest Council are continuing to support Eco Rewards for schools and residents in Bracknell. There is sufficient funding in place to take continue through 2021. During March, there will be a Spring themed Treasure Hunt aimed at families and younger children.
  • Thursday 4 March 2021 Year 11 PPEs (mock exams) Year 11 PPEs in English, mathematics and science will take place during week beginning 29 March.   Students should have received a timetable schedule for that week.  Year 11 PPEs in other subjects will be arranged for the Summer Term (dates be confirmed).   
  • Thursday 4 March 2021 Return to School - Testing Arrangements Further to my email to parents/carers sent last Friday 26 February, parents/carers should have received from the College further details on the test arrangements, including appointment time for the first initial test.  Students will be able to return to face-to-face education at school after their first negative test.  The first of three initial tests (3-5 days apart) will take place on site for students from Monday 08 March as follows:
  • Thursday 11 February 2021 Lateral Flow Device (LFD) Testing in School Parents/carers were previously emailed at the start of January with a request to provide consent for their son/daughter to be tested using the Lateral Flow Device (LFD) test.† Thank you to all those who have responded to date.† In anticipation of the mass testing of students twice (3-5 days apart) on their return when school re-opens, we do require parental consent.† If you have not yet replied, please complete the consent form by following the link:
  • Thursday 11 February 2021 Contact Tracing During February Half-Term A reminder that where students test positive during February half term, having developed symptoms within 48 hours of being in school (eg. when an individual may    have been infectious in school), schools will be required to identify close contacts and inform them to self-isolate.  If you do need to contact the College to inform us about a positive Covid-19 test, please email  reception@garthhillcollege.com. 
  • Wednesday 3 February 2021 Review 2 Reports Review 2 reports for year 11 pupils will be sent to parents/carers via our Schoolcomms system on Friday 5 February 2021.  If you do not receive your child’s report on this date, please check your junk and/or spam folders in the first instance. Please contact your child’s tutor if you have any queries regarding the content of their report.
  • Thursday 28 January 2021 News of Former Student We were delighted to receive the news that former student, Emma Harries, has signed a professional contract with Reading Football Club.  Emma left the College’s Sixth Form last year.  She also made her first team last year and has since become a regular member of the squad.  Congratulations and well done to Emma.
  • Thursday 28 January 2021 Year 12/13 Parentsí Evenings We apologise for the technical issues that some experienced during the year 12/13 parents’ evening last Thursday 21 January.  This was an issue with School Cloud and was completely outside of our control.  Other schools experienced similar issues.  School Cloud has provided assurances that the issue has been resolved.

  • Thursday 14 January 2021 UPDATE on GCSE, A Level and BTEC As you know, the Secretary of State for Education announced last week that summer examinations were cancelled and teacher assessment will determine students’ results this year.  The Department for Education also announced yesterday that the scheduled exam assessments for vocational and technical qualifications, including BTEC Level 2 Awards, will not take place in February or March this year.  Students due to sit vocational examinations in January can continue to take these as scheduled.

  • Thursday 12 November 2020 Performance Review for all Pupils Our school day is normally condensed during the week of these reviews to allow time for appointments at the beginning and end of the school day.¬† This is not possible this year due to the Covid-19 arrangements that are in place.¬† We would simply not be able to re-arrange the school day to make time for the reviews. After careful consideration, and consultation with the Local Authority and Governors, a decision has been taken to close the school to pupils on Monday 30 November and Tuesday 01 December so that the performance review meetings between tutors and parents/carers can take place remotely.¬†Over these two days, pupils will be expected to learn remotely from home. Work for each lesson will be set via Microsoft Teams. This will provide the opportunity for all parents/carers to meet with their child‚Äôs form tutor.¬†

  • Wednesday 9 September 2020 Notice on Face Coverings As an added precaution, the wearing of face coverings in communal areas will be compulsory for all students and staff on the main college site (not Rise@GHC) with effect from Thursday 10 September.¬† This applies to areas such as corridors, Inner Link, social spaces etc.¬† Students are also expected to wear a face covering on entering the main college site on arrival and as they leave the site on dismissal.¬† Students may remove their face covering when eating/drinking in the restaurant or other allocated area for break/lunch (eg. restaurant terrace), but not until they are seated and ready to eat/drink.¬† ¬†¬†¬†
