Thursday 28 April 2022 Standards and Expectations of Behaviour and Dress As referenced in the last bulletin dated 31 March 2022, we strive for high standards of behaviour, courtesy and self-discipline among pupils and expect them to adopt the Seven Habits of Highly Effective Garth Hill College Pupils. All pupils have been reminded of these expectations in assemblies this past week and will continue to receive regular reminders to reinforce our expectations.

Tuesday 26 April 2022 Examination Invigilators Required We are seeking to appoint a pool of reliable people to support all examinations. No experience is needed as full training will be given but experience of working with young people will of course be an advantage. The main examination period is in June and July, however, there will be other examinations requiring invigilators at other times of the year.

Tuesday 26 April 2022 Year 11 Leavers Hoodies, Year Book and Prom The shop to purchase Leavers Hoodies is now open. The suppliers are a local company, DM Hoodies and we have used this company for the last two years. Please click on the link below if you wish to consider placing an order: hoodies can be purchased inarange of colours and sizes. They will have an embroidered Garth Hill College badge on the front with a large 22 on the reverse with the names of all pupils in the year group. Your child can also choose to have a name of their choice on the back.

Thursday 31 March 2022 Summer Uniform The wearing of summer uniform (the blue College polo shirt) is now permitted. The College polo shirt may be worn in place of the shirt and tie. No t-shirts or jewellery should be visible at the neck of the polo shirt or under the hem of the polo shirt or jumper.

Tuesday 22 March 2022 Panathlon Sports Leaders A massive well doneto the Year 10 Sports leaders who did an amazing job running both the primary and secondary Panathlon event last week at the Sports Centre. This was a new event for Bracknell Forest Sports Partnership and it did not disappoint. Great fun was had by all the children and the leaders!

Friday 18 March 2022 Performing Arts at GCSE and A-Level Shrek the musical is being performed at South Hill Park this Easter. We are so proud to recognise the talent of 3 out of the 4 lead characters being GHC pupils.

Wednesday 16 March 2022 KS3 Science Magic Show Today for Science Week, Dr Matt Pritchard (The Science Magician) visited Garth Hill, doing four shows for our KS3 classes. He was our last visitor before the 2020 lockdown, and it's great to have him back two years on!

Wednesday 2 March 2022 Frantic Assembly Workshop Last week, our year 10 Performing Arts students participated in a workshop with professional performer Gavin from Frantic Assembly.The students worked on devising theatre, creating short performances in the style of the acclaimed company. Not only was this a fun morning, but it gave the students a great opportunity to develop their knowledge and skills in Physical Theatre and performance.

Thursday 24 February 2022 Covid-19 Public Heath Advice and Self-Isolation As you may know, whilst the legal requirement for people to self-isolate following a positive test ends from Thursday 24 February, the public health advice has not changed. Adults and children who test positive are still advised to stay at home and avoid contact with others for at least five days, and to follow the guidance until two negative test results on consecutive days are recorded.

Tuesday 22 February 2022 Polar Preet's Arctic Adventure On 22 February, we were lucky enough to be joined by ‘Polar Preet’. Captain Harpreet Chandi from the British Army. Harpreet is the first woman of colour to solo walk to the South Pole and she only completed this adventure in January. She spoke to the Year 9 and 10 Geography pupils about how she ended up as a physiotherapist in the Army and how this led to her many achievements. She covered her journey there, the conditions she had to endure, the preparation and determination she needed to succeed.

Wednesday 9 February 2022 Help for students taking exams in summer 2022 Summer exams for GCSEs, AS and A levels will be taking place in 2022 for the frst time since the COVID-19 pandemic began. Ofqual and the Department for Education recognise the diffculties students may have faced during the pandemic, and changes have been made to this year’s arrangements to help students.

Tuesday 8 February 2022 Train Station Art This term, students in Year 8 are exploring portraiture and identity in their Art lessons. All students were challenged to create a piece of work in response to Pablo Picasso.Staff were extremely impressed with the students creative use of materials and the expression and character that they showed in their portraits.The college shared the work with The Englemere Arts Society who selected 10 students work to display at Bracknell train station. This is on the right hand side as you walk towards the ticket office.
