Friday 5 June 2026 Year 9 MFL Language Leaders Earlier this term, our Year 9 Spanish Language Leaders delivered their first Spanish teaching sessions at Sandy Lane School. It was very much an "in-at-the-deep-end" experience for them, standing in front of 30 pupils and teaching a foreign language for the first time!

Wednesday 3 June 2026 Green Power Regional Qualifying 2026 – Castle Coombe The first qualifying event for the Garth Hill Blazers' 2026 Greenpower season took place at Castle Combe Motor Circuit on Sunday 31 May. In comparison to our test event in March at Mallory Park (Leicestershire), the weather was glorious and the driving conditions ideal for our new Year 9 team.

Wednesday 6 May 2026 The Rise - Imperial War Museum Trip On Tuesday 5 May, Year 9 pupils visited the Imperial War Museum for their annual History trip with Miss Allen, ahead of beginning the GCSE syllabus in September. Pupils travelled into London by train from Bracknell to London Waterloo station. While at Waterloo, they spent time looking at the Windrush memorial before continuing on foot to the museum.

Tuesday 5 May 2026 Students Experience Beekeeping First-Hand Last week, during Sixth Form enrichment and Eco-Club, we were delighted to welcome Lorraine from Surrey Bees, who has been an invaluable bee mentor to our school. Lorraine has generously supported us with donations and guidance, and her expertise in managing over 150 hives and delivering training for new and aspiring beekeepers, made this a truly special visit.

Tuesday 5 May 2026 Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) Olympiad The GHC Chemistry Department is excited to have achieved its best-ever results in the UK Chemistry Olympiad, run by the Royal Society of Chemistry. Designed to challenge and inspire, the Olympiad provides a unique opportunity for students to push themselves further and excel in the field of chemistry by tackling problems beyond their A-level specification. By participating, students develop critical problem-solving skills, learn to think more creatively, and have the opportunity to test their knowledge in new, real-world contexts.

Monday 4 May 2026 Year 7 PGL Residential 91 Year 7 pupils had an absolutely fantastic time on their recent PGL residential trip from 01 to 03 May. From start to finish, the group demonstrated excellent behaviour, enthusiasm, and resilience, making it a truly memorable experience for everyone involved.

Tuesday 28 April 2026 Pride of Bracknell Awards Congratulations to Ruth Fettes who won the Silver Award in the ‘Sport & Achievement' category at the Pride of Bracknell Awards last Friday 24 April. Ruth set up the Bracknell Cobras Basketball Club in 2010, which has grown to over 500 junior members with eight junior national league teams. Ruth was also instrumental in setting up a basketball academy in partnership with us in 2024. Ruth gives up countless hours every week helping so many young people in our community. She fully deserves this award and we are delighted for her. It follows on from her Services to Basketball Award that she received from Basketball England last year.

Tuesday 28 April 2026 Pink Kangaroo Maths Challenge Following their success in the Intermediate Maths Challenge, Carrick Chu and Anson Leung recently participated in the UKMT Pink Kangaroo. As follow-on rounds to the IMC, the Pink Kangaroo is a multiple-choice challenge designed to further stretch and develop the mathematical problem-solving skills of KS4 students. Entry to the Grey and Pink Kangaroos is by invitation only, with several thousand UK-based students qualifying each year.

Tuesday 21 April 2026 The Rise - Houses of Parliament Trip In the Autumn term, the late Mr Pickford established the first Rise@GHC Debate Club, providing students with the opportunity to share their opinions on local and global politics in a safe learning environment. The club aimed to build confidence while encouraging awareness and respect for differing viewpoints. Mr Pickford had one clear ambition: to take Rise@GHC to the Houses of Parliament, a plan he had begun to organise prior to his passing.

Friday 7 November 2025 Young Aviators Terminal 5 Trip On Thursday 6 November, ten students from the GHC Young Aviators Club visited Heathrow Terminal 5 for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to go airside. Airside refers to the part of an airport used by aircraft for loading, unloading, take-offs, and landings – a tightly controlled and secure area of the terminal.

The session featured an engaging Q&A on career pathways, offering valuable insight and inspiration for future innovators.

Friday 24 October 2025 Year 7 Geography River Trip At the end of last half term, Year 7 geography students visited Rushall Farm to take part in a day of hands-on river fieldwork. During the trip, pupils learned how to measure the width, depth, and speed of flow of a river and investigated how the velocity changes around a meander.
