Friday 27 September 2024 Open Evening 2024 We opened our doors to hundreds of prospective parents/carers and students on Wednesday 2 October for the College’s Open Evening. This year our Sixth Form Centre was also open for those students considering their post-16 destination in 2025. Thank you to everyone who supported this event, including parents/ carers who allowed their child/ren to be helpers on the night.

Friday 27 September 2024 Dreams and Goals Evening Finally, a big thank you to all those who attended the ‘Dreams and Goals’ parents’ evening last Thursday 26 September. We received lots of positive feedback. This evening provides a good opportunity for parents/carers to visit the school and meet in person with their child’s form tutor. It complements the online subject parents’ evenings.

Monday 16 September 2024 Applying for a Secondary School place - September 2025 Parent / carers of Year 6 children are now be able to apply for a secondary school place (for Year 7, September 2025) via their home local authority.

Thursday 12 September 2024 Standards and Expectations We have had a very positive start to the academic year. Our aim is to ensure ‘excellence as standard’ and create a calm, purposeful environment which enables pupils and staff to maximise learning time and feel safe and secure at school. The majority of students look extremely smart and are following the Seven Habits and Behaving Impeccably every day. Assemblies this week have focused on reiterating our high expectations, working hard and aiming high.

Tuesday 10 September 2024 E-Scooters Due to a number of incidents involving E-scooters over the summer holiday period, Thames Valley Police would like to remind all parents and students that it is only legal to use E-Scooters on private land. It is illegal to drive a privately owned E-scooter on a public road, pavement or cycle path. E-scooters are not permitted on Garth Hill College site and should not be used as a method of transport to and from school.

The Autism Accreditation Programme is an internationally recognised quality standard for organisations providing services to autistic people.

Tuesday 4 June 2024 Anti-Bullying School of the Month Following on from the Inclusion Badge Award, we are delighted to share that Garth Hill was awarded ‘Anti-Bullying School of the Month’ for May by the Diana Award. Well done to everyone, in particular to our student Anti-Bullying Ambassadors who have worked so hard to raise awareness, provide support and keep under careful review our Pupil Well-Being Charter (founded in 2017 by students).

Monday 20 May 2024 Inclusion Badge Award We are delighted to share that the College has attained the Inclusion Badge Award. This is great testament to the work of staff and pupils, particularly of our pupil representative groups, the College’s pastoral team, Mrs Morris, Miss Preuth, Ms Dossett, Mrs Moroka, Ms Louis, Mrs Brown-Fyffe. Friday 10 May 2024 Mental Health Awareness Week (13-19 May)

Thursday 25 April 2024 International Culture Week The Antibullying Council have been collecting pupil voice regarding bullying and discrimination. They have trained the teachers on what pupils would like them to do in the classroom but also what they would like to see more of within the school curriculum. One of the things mentioned by several pupils was to have opportunities to celebrate our different cultures and heritage. Next week we will therefore be having an International Culture Week. Mrs Brown-Fyffe, Ms Louis and Mrs Moroka have organised a range of events detailed below and are advertising them to the pupils this week in assemblies. Please encourage your children to get involved and enjoy the week!

Tuesday 2 April 2024 Summer Uniform The wearing of summer uniform (the blue College polo shirt) is permitted after the Easter holidays from Monday 15 April 2024. The College polo shirt may be worn in place of the shirt and tie. No t-shirts or jewellery should be visible at the neck of the polo shirt or under the hem of the polo shirt or jumper.

Wednesday 27 March 2024 STEM Day at Wellington College The Wellington College STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths) trip on Tuesday 26 March was great.

Tuesday 26 March 2024 Sir Robert McAlpine Construction Site Visit Year 11 students Alfie, Jed, Kobi, Tajus and Joel got to visit a construction site last week and upon arrival were given a presentation about the company, Sir Robert McAlpine (SRM). They had a talk from one of the international Managers who overseas every project. He told them that he started from the bottom of the company, sweeping up the dirt, to running the international projects. There were more examples of people who worked on site and how they got there, whether through apprenticeships, college courses or through the “learn and earn” programme (working for four days and the company pays for their college course one day a week).

Tuesday 26 March 2024 Humanities Day at Wellington College On Monday 25 March, ten year 9 pupils attended a Humanities day at Wellington College. The pupils were offered four lessons by Wellington College teachers in Psychology, Creative Writing, Geography and Economics. Our pupils were a credit to the College. One teacher asked if they were older than the other groups as they were so mature. They gave some fantastic answers and showed a wealth of prior knowledge. They enjoyed a day in the life of a Wellington College pupil, especially lunch in the restaurant. One pupil described it like being in the Harry Potter Great Hall. We are very proud of how they represented the school and got involved in the day.

Tuesday 26 March 2024 Silver Attitude to Learning Stars Many congratulations to all the students listed below as they have qualified for their Silver ATL Stars at Review 2. Each of these students gained their Bronze ATL Star following Review 1 data and we are proud to announce that they have maintained an excellent attitude to learning across their subjects and have gained their Silver Stars. Monday 25 March 2024 British Science Week 2024 British Science Week 2024 marked its 30th Anniversary with a captivating theme: "Time." Under the guidance of Mrs Fatania, assemblies have delved deeply into the concept of time, while students have explored the subject further during tutor sessions through engaging TED talk videos.

Thursday 21 March 2024 Table Cricket Competition on Wednesday 20 March 2024. Year 7,8 and 9 pupils took part in a Table Cricket Tournament at Loddon Valley Leisure Centre. The team worked extremely well to support each other, take part and congratulate other teams. The team came 3rd out of seven schools and were great role models for Rise@GHC.

Thursday 21 March 2024 Eco-Club Update On Wednesday 20 March, the Eco Club hosted a bee hive frame making session to give some of the 6th form and the eco-club members a new experience.

Monday 11 March 2024 Book Week Earlier this month, the Learning Resource Centre (LRC) celebrated Book Week with lots of competitions and events running.
