The Trench Experience
An area within the College’s grounds is being turned into an outdoor museum. This is a wonderful opportunity for primary and secondary aged pupils in Bracknell Forest, as well as others in the wider community, to make a strong connection with the past and engage in remembrance of the First World War.
Visitors will benefit from ‘hands on’ educational talks, re-enactment demonstrations, displays and access to supporting digital information. Visitors would ‘walk through’ a realistic First World War trench in order to gain an understanding of a soldier’s life at the front. Educational activities and demonstrations will help visitors to:
- understand the war and the conditions in the trenches
- uncover personal stories
- experience typical trench life
- explore the legacy of the Great War and what it means to us today.
This resource would complement the History curriculum at key stage 3 and at key stage 2 through the study of an aspect or theme in British history that extends pupils’ chronological knowledge beyond 1066.
This is a ‘not for profit’ venture and visitor groups will only be charged to cover running costs.
